CPA Australia is one of the world's largest accounting bodies with a membership of more than 117,000 finance, accounting and business professionals across the globe.
Its international presence continues to grow in terms of representation on international bodies and influence in the profession globally.
In areas of financial reporting, taxation and corporate governance CPA Australia are thought leaders in Australia and internationally. Education, training, technical support and advocacy are CPA Australia's core services for members.
CPA Australia staff and members work together with local and international bodies to represent the views and concerns of the profession to federal, state and territory governments and to regulators, industry, academia and the general public.
Established by Royal Charter in 1928 with antecedent bodies dating back to 1885. It currently operates under a Supplemental (amending) Charter granted by the Governor-General on 23 August 2000.
In Australia, the designation "Chartered Accountant" (CA) is earned by satisfying the ICAA’s admission requirements which include:
- completing a Bachelor degree at an Australian university accredited by the ICAA (or a qualifications deemed comparable);
- passing the ICAA’s own postgraduate entry program (the CA Program); and
- undertaking 3 years of approved practical experience mentored by a Chartered Accountant.
