CAPA congratulates Rachel Grimes (Australia) for being elected as President of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) for a two-year term effective through November 2018.
Rachel is IFAC's second female President, having been on the IFAC Board since 2011. She brings with her a wealth of knowledge with over 25 years of experience in the financial services sector and having served the Australian accounting profession for over a decade. She was the President of the Chartered Accountants Australia & New Zealand (CAANZ) in 2011 (formerly the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia) having served on its Board since 2006.
CAPA is also delighted to note the election of In-Ki Joo (Korea) as IFAC's Deputy President, having been on the IFAC Board since 2012.
A Professor, Emeritus, of Accounting at the Yonsei University School of Business, In-Ki has been actively involved in the profession through various appointments including as Vice President, International Affairs, of the Korean Institute of Certified Public Accountants (KICPA) and the president of other professional institutions in Korea. Most notably, In-Ki was CAPA's President from October 2009-2011, and is the first CAPA President to have moved on to IFAC with engagements in its committees and be elected for a leadership position.
"This is exciting news and on behalf of CAPA, I would like to extend our best wishes to both Rachel and In-Ki on their new appointments. I would also like to commend both the professional accountancy organisations (PAOs), CAANZ and KICPA, for their support in enabling the individuals to be involved at IFAC with such dedication. This level of commitment and support is important to those representing their PAOs so that the individuals can perform their duties well and beyond," President, Jackie Poirier, commented.
"It is indeed pleasing to note these two new appointments, particularly since both are leaders from the Asia-Pacific region, and both the CAANZ and KICPA are members of CAPA," Chief Executive, Brian Blood, commented; adding "it is wonderful to see In-Ki appointed as the Deputy President of IFAC just a few years after serving as the President of CAPA".
